What is a structural defect?

A structural defect is a fault in a new building regarding its physical structure, that may be caused by (but not limited to):

  • Design failures
  • Low-quality materials
  • Structural cracks
  • Poor workmanship
  • Problems with foundations build
  • Wall and roofing issues

It is important to note that structural defects may only occur several months or even years after the building completion date. This is why structural warranties are taken for a period of 10-12 years after its completion date.
At Exchequer Risk Management we can ensure you are covered for such precautions and likelihoods, so that ultimately could save you money in the long run.

What is a structural defect?

This type of insurance is of course intended as a precautionary policy, however it is important to note the reasons why our structural warranties insurance will benefit you:

Safeguard your property

Structural warranties can safeguard the process of selling your property easier and ensures that your building is still worth what it is after construction work is completed.

Patent structural defects are not only commonplace, but repairing/replacing them can be incredibly costly. Therefore, it is important you take out protection should you incur any costs which could hinder the sale or use of your building/project.

Some structural defects can go undetected for years after a building/construction project is completed. Hence it is better to be insured as a preventative measure so that you are prepared for such occurrences arising.

If structural defects are insured, it allows for trust and professionalism regarding your property/build should someone wish to purchase it, as they wont have to worry about being liable as the property is covered for any faults/defects.
